1. Disable Airplane Mode

Make sure your device’s Airplane Mode is turned off. If it’s turned off but your Android phone still won’t make or receive calls, attempt enabling Airplane Mode for a few seconds and then turning it off.

From the Android Quick Settings drawer, disable Airplane Mode, or go to Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane Mode.

2. Check SIM Card

If the SIM card (s) on your Android device is inserted incorrectly, you may be unable to make or receive calls. You have the option of physically ejecting your SIM card (s) and double-checking that they are properly inserted into the SIM tray/port as directed by the manufacturer. Remove the SIM card and reinstall it to see if you can now make phone calls.

3. Reactivate SIM Cards

Rather than dislodging your SIM cards, you can disable and reactivate them. This may help you resolve any phone-SIM card conflicts that are preventing you from making or receiving calls. To deactivate a SIM card on your Android device, follow the steps below.

If you have multiple SIM cards on your phone, you can only deactivate one of them. When you try to deactivate your phone’s only SIM card, you’ll get an error message that says “Error: can’t disable all the SIMs.”

4. Clear Dialer Cache Data

Clearing the cache data in your dialer app may also help you get your phone to make phone calls.

Step 1: Select ‘Apps & notifications‘ from the Settings menu.

Now open the dialer and see if you can make (and receive) phone calls. You should not be concerned because clearing the smart phone cache data will not deactivate your call history or contacts.

5. Contact Network Carrier

If you can make and receive calls with another SIM card, you could perhaps contact your network carrier—using a different phone number or through social media—to confirm that the impacted SIM card is active and hasn’t been blocked. If the SIM card is active, you may be given useful information to help you resolve the issue with your SIM card.
