House Of The Dragon 2022: Trailer, Release Date, Cast

There is already a lot to learn about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series now that the House of the Dragon release date and other plot points have been revealed. After its debut in 2011, Game of Thrones quickly became one of the world’s most popular television shows.

Despite having a contentious conclusion in 2019, the popularity of the series makes HBO’s consideration of a number of prequels, spinoffs, and sequels that will continue exploring the realm of Westeros predictable. In August 2022, more than ten years after Game of Thrones debuted, the prequel sequel, House of the Dragon, will make its debut.

HBO began putting multiple projects into early production even before Game of Thrones concluded in order to keep things rolling, including a shelved GOT prequel set during the Age of Heroes. The programme, which was produced by Jane Goldman (Kingsman) and George R.R. Martin, was given a pilot order with Naomi Watts heading the ensemble, but it wasn’t picked up for a full season.

HBO didn’t let up when the initial attempt failed and instead pursued House of the Dragon. In 2019, HBO issued a straight-to-series order for the prequel. Many Game of Thrones fans are looking forward to the House of the Dragon’s debut on HBO and HBO Max since the teaser has been released. Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony) co-created the series for House of the Dragon, and Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik will work with Condal as a co-showrunner.

It is largely based on Fire & Blood, a tale by George R.R. Martin published in 2018. Here is what is known so far about the actors, the plot, and the House of Dragons release date for the prequel, which will be released after House Targaryen and take place hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones.

House Of The Dragon Release Date

HBO has set an August 21st release date for House of the Dragon, which will air in 2022. House of Dragon started shooting in April 2021, and a teaser video for the release announced that it will premiere in 2022. As Game of Thrones grew throughout the seasons, it took longer to finish filming and telecast the program; season 1 took around eight months, while season 8 took about a year and a half.

Despite a brief halt in COVID-19 manufacturing, the House of Dragons occupied a middle position. The scale of House of the Dragon, which has a production schedule of little over a year (whose completion was declared in February 2022), is projected to be more than that of the first but less than that of the second.

The release date for House of the Dragon has been rumoured for some time, but at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, a new longer trailer was shown, and members of the cast and crew shared many details about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel. The release date for the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, in the United States is August 21, 2022, when it will air on HBO and HBO Max. The worldwide release date for House of the Dragon is August 22, so foreign fans will have to wait an extra day.

The performers in Game of Thrones received praise, and the House of the Dragons cast is hoping to build on that success with a predominantly British ensemble that includes well-known faces. Paddy Considine (Dead Man’s Shoes, Hot Fuzz, The Third Day) is leading the charge as King Viserys I Targaryen, who succeeds Jaehaerys I as king of Westeros and reigns for more than 20 years. He is selected by the Great Council.

The remaining members of the main cast are Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Sound of Metal), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2), and Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Viserys’ younger brother and a great warrior. Emma D’Arcy plays Rhaenyra Targaryen, the firstborn child of Viserys Targaryen in his first marriage, who becomes her father’s heir and

The Targaryen family’s monarch, King Viserys I, will be portrayed by Paddy Considine. Matt Smith will play Prince Daemon, Viserys’ younger brother, while Emmy D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenrya, the first child and successor of Viserys. The main cast also includes actors who are not Targaryen, such as Rhys Ifans, who will play Ser Otto Hightower, the king’s hand; Olivia Cooke, who will play Lady Alicent Hightower, Otto’s daughter (who becomes queen in the book when she marries Viserys); and Fabien Frankel, who will play Ser Criston Cole, a knight who is in love with Princess Rhaenrya.

Sonyo Mizuno, who will play Prince Daemon’s sweetheart Mysaria, and actors Eve Best and Steve Toussaint, who will play married royal couple Princess Rhaenys Velaryon and Lord Corlys Velaryon, round out the cast. The Velaryons are a significant departure from the source material; in the adaption, they are affluent black kings. “It was really essential to Miguel [Sapochnik and me] to develop a show that wasn’t just another group of white folks on film,” co-showrunner Ryan Condal told Entertainment Weekly. Although we wanted to include diversity in the programme, we didn’t want to do it in a way that appeared forced or, worse, tokenistic.

Detail Story: House of the Dragon

The original logline for House of the Dragon said that it would depict the start of House Targaryen’s demise by adapting portions of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel. The Targaryen Civil War, known as The Dance of the Dragons, which took place some 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, will be the subject of the drama rather than delving quite as far back in time as Aegon’s Conquest, which took place.

Even though the seeds of the civil war were sown during Viserys’ reign, it is only after his passing that events take a more serious turn, as Rhaenyra, Viserys’ designated heir, is forced to defend her position against Aegon II, his son with Alicent Hightower, whom Viserys had not designated as his heir, to the surprise (and ire) of many. The breach that develops between childhood friends Rhaenyra and Alicent will take centre stage in the first season of House of the Dragon.

This battle, along with Matt Smith’s Daemon’s ambitions, sets Westeros on the path to an all-out civil war, the effects of which are still being felt hundreds of years later when Game of Thrones takes place. Along with providing two distinct viewpoints of historical Westeros, House of the Dragon will also rewind in time to examine Rhaenyra and Alicent’s youth (both feature younger actors alongside D’Arcy and Cooke in the cast). It will also go into the Targaryens’ past.

Many Game of Thrones houses and families make a reappearance, and other less well-known names also appear, even though the plot of House of Dragon will be more Targaryen-focused. The Hightowers and House Valaryon will each play a significant role. There will also be Stark and Lannister ancestors present.

The Iron Throne will be up for grabs in the House of Dragon, and there will probably be a lot of struggle amongst the many Targaryen factions. It makes sense that fans are looking forward to the House of the Dragon release date of August 21 because the Game of Thrones prequel plot has plenty of room for political intrigue, family drama, and dragon-packed combat.
