How can you change your Default Google Account?

Do you ever get confused about which Google account you’re using for Gmail, Google Drive, or Google Calendar? How can you change your Default Google Account? Have you ever tried to enter a Google Meet call for work only to be turned down because you were using your account instead of your work account?

Yes, Default Google Account occurs to us as well. Fortunately, Google makes switching between accounts and setting a new account as your Default Google Account very easy. When using some Google apps in your web browsers, such as Docs or even Gmail, you’ll need to sign in to a report.

However, the account you choose to use might not be set as the Default Google Account for new tabs and applications all of the time. The default Google account is the one you used to sign up with the first time. Android devices and several Google apps follow the same law.

By going to the Google site and clicking on the profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen, you can easily see which of your accounts is the default. You’re still using a default account if one of the accounts doesn’t say “Default” next to it. Since the Default Google Account was the first one you signed into, deleting it would log you out of all of your funds.

Reasons you want to change your Default Google Account.

There are a variety of reasons why you would want to update your Default Google Account. If you have various Gmail accounts that you use on different devices at different times, it’s a good idea to set each device’s default account to the one you use the most.

Suppose you have a work Gmail account that you use solely on your desktop during operating hours and a private Gmail account that you practice on your mobile and smartphone, for example. In that case, you may want to make your work account the default on your desktop and your account the default on your phone and tablet.

Setting a Default Google Account on your different devices in this manner will help you control your time. After all, you don’t want to be deflected from your work by personal emails. Similarly, you might want to disconnect from work after a long day and keep your devices free of work emails.

How Can You Change Your Default Google Account?

Multiple sign-ins used to be a pain, but they’re now easier than ever. When logged into one account, you can now see the content of your other accounts. However, you can’t access specific Google tools (like Google Drive) from both accounts at the same time unless you select one.

Google uses the first account you used to log in. This is the law that will always be followed. When you use several sign-ins, the Google menu at the top-right also recommends the Default Google Account.

It is what Google has to say about it:

“In many situations, the Default Google Account is the one with which you first signed in. Your default account on a mobile device varies depending on the operating system and applications you use.”

Default Google Account

Setting a default Gmail or Google account is the solution:

  1. Open a non-incognito window and go to any Google site’s sign-in tab.
  2. Delete all of your Google accounts. On the top-right, select your profile photo, and then select Sign out from the menu.
  3. Sign in to gmail.com with the account you choose to use as the default account. Remember that the first account you log in with is always the default. Try it for yourself by logging into some other Google service (like Google Drive).
  4. After you’ve signed in to your default Google account, you can sign in to any other Google account and turn back and forth between them.
  5. Pick your profile picture from the top-right menu once more. Select Add Account from the menu. Sign in to the account you require to use with your credentials.

For someone who only has one Google account, this isn’t a problem. However, it’s crucial for those of us who have different work and personal Gmail accounts. You will save time and energy by making one Google account your default every day.

Here are a few examples of typical scenarios:

  • One of your accounts can have a language environment that differs from the others.
  • You could have a work account with Google Apps and a personal account with Gmail.
  • Two-factor authentication may be allowed on some of your accounts.
  • Each account can have its own set of privacy rules.

You can double-check that this has changed by going to Google in a new tab. There will be no updates to the already available pages, and the account icon will be the one you choose as the default.

Additional Default Google Account Tips

Multiple Gmail (or any other Google app) accounts are easier to handle than the simple account switcher. However, there are a few annoyances. Maybe you tried to open a shared connection, and Google told you that your default account didn’t have permission.

Here are tips to help you manage multiple Google accounts more efficiently and save you a few clicks.

  1. For each Google account, use a different profile image.
  2. Need access to a Google account other than your default for a short period? To sign in, use the Incognito feature of your browser.
  3. When you sit down to work, log into your Google accounts in the order you want for fast switching. Then, for the accounts you don’t need, close the tabs. You can turn at any time before you log out without having to sign in.
  4. Set up sharing privileges between two accounts for files and directories you use often. It’s unnecessary to have two accounts with “edit permissions on a shared file or folder” available.
  5. You can only use three accounts with Google Backup & Sync. Please choose your preferred account and adjust the location of each Google Drive folder so that they don’t clash.
  6. Create separate Chrome profiles for each of your Google accounts. For example, you may require to use several extensions for your personal and work accounts.
  7. To log into websites with several Google sign-ins, use a Chrome extension like SessionBox.
  8. Set up email forwarding from one Gmail account to another to gain access to important emails.
  9.  You can share Gmail labels through several accounts with the Gmail Label Sharing extension.
  10. To stop automatic log-ins and be more deliberate about the Google account you use, uncheck the Stay signed in option.

If you work with multiple accounts daily, creating numerous Chrome profiles is the way to go. (Be sure to use the advanced Google encryption software to secure each of your Google accounts.)

Switching Between Several Google Sign-Ins

A successful “Google habit” starts the day with the default Google account and then sign in to others. It’s much easier with the Google Account Switcher.

Your user activity and app preferences on mobile devices are stored in the default account you signed into the system. Start with a default Google sign-in and then add other accounts to keep things in order. With practice, you’ll be able to automate the process, making logging into the correct Google account less of a hassle.
